How I spent my Summer Break

I’m glad i’m back to do one of my favorite activities— blogging!

 

I have been travelling a lot with our DevCom interns. We went to Bokod, Buguias, Mankayan and Bontoc, Mt. Province. I have learned a lot from our students— what they are like as housemates and roomies…

I can say that they can cook well… they never ran out of ideas for our viand and our interns are  good in housekeeping… (taught well at home)

It was just sad that our interns were not able to broadcast in Radjo Natin, Buguias, Benguet. They were experienceing technical problems with the reception of the manila broadcast so we were informed (may 15)  that that students would be able to have a longer broadcast time allotment… but we had to wait for the go signal from the station manager who was out of town according to the partner station manager (who is the husband of the station manager– owners/franchisees)

… but then, we were informed on the night of May 18 (by the lady station manager) that they won’t be able to accommodate our interns because of “technical problems”…

 

 

 

hmmm… something fishy?

The delayed rejection of our request was very bad timing since we already spent four days in Buguias and it was too late to look for another community radio station… Yes! i was a bit pissed because they shoul have informed us right from the start when our interns and Ms. Mafe (my co-faculty in devcom) visited the station for orientation…

Since the managers are husband and wife… and we know that both of them have mobile phones, maybe they would have discussed our request while they were sending text messages to each other…

What is sad is that we sent our letter on the first week of May. We had our file copy so there was no reason for them to have delayed their response to our request— just a simple yes or no would do— but still they had to delay it for more than 4 days! 

 

 I had to explain to our interns that we had to change plans ASAP. We brainstormed for PLAN B! So… I asked our interns to make their developntal plugs for production the following day.

I had to go to Mankayan (another municipality in Benguet) to surf the internet… I had to download “audacity” and “wavepad”… it was only in Mankayan that there were internet service providers. Fare was P25.00 so I guessed that Mankayan Poblacion was no that far (about 12 or more kilometers from Abatan, Buguias).

I taught the students how to record and edit audio files (may 19 evening)… and we were able to produce plugs they aired over the radio station. 

Well… our interns joined the other interns who went to broadcast in Radjo Natin and Radjo ng Bayan in Bontoc, Mt. Province. Everything went well (a good thing!)…
